A maintenance plan is worth it if you'd actually book both seasonal tune-ups anyway — the bundle typically beats per-visit pricing before counting priority service and repair discounts. If you'd skip visits, no plan fixes that.

What does a plan actually bundle — and what's each piece worth?
The standard structure bundles two seasonal tune-ups (cooling in spring, heating in fall — the anchor value; price two à-la-carte visits and compare), priority scheduling (worth the most exactly when you need it — the first heat wave and the first freeze, when every shop's board is full), repair discounts (real value only if a repair happens — expected value, not guaranteed), and often waived overtime/after-hours fees (same logic). Our own Comfort Club follows this structure; the arithmetic above applies to any provider's plan, including ours.
What's the failure mode — when do plans NOT pay?
- You'd never have booked maintenance anyway — then the plan is a subscription for visits that still require you to schedule them. (Plans where the company calls YOU to schedule fix this; ask.)
- Brand-new equipment under full warranty with a plan priced as if repairs were imminent.
- Plans that are really discount-club sales programs — low monthly fees whose main function is getting a commissioned tech into your home twice a year. Judge any plan by its inspection checklist, not its price.
What should you ask before joining any plan?
Four questions: What exactly is on the inspection checklist (point count, and do you get the completed copy)? Who schedules the visits — you or them? What happens if you cancel mid-term? And does the plan documentation satisfy the manufacturer warranty's maintenance requirement? Any provider — us included — should answer all four in writing without hesitation.
