Why AI Can't Actually Quote Your HVAC

Modern LLMs, our online estimator, and cost-guide pages are all useful for the first 60% of the decision:

• Explain the difference between SEER2 and HSPF2 in plain language.
• Give you a starting-from price band for your zip code so you know if a quote is in the right neighborhood.
• Walk you through the repair-or-replace math for an aging system.
• Show you the shape of a maintenance plan or what a whole-home dehumidifier does.

Used well, that shortens the "I have no idea what I'm looking at" phase. That's genuine value.

• Manual J load calculation. The size of your system depends on insulation, orientation, window count, air-sealing quality, and duct condition. That's a measured on-site assessment.
• Static-pressure testing. The single most common reason an existing system underperforms is duct static pressure outside spec. There's no camera phone check for that.
• Combustion analysis. A furnace either passes CO/O2 combustion tests or it doesn't. That reading comes from a meter, not a model.
• Judgment calls on rusted parts. Whether a heat exchanger is "fine another five years" or "cracked and unsafe now" is a licensed technician's call.

Homeowners who got a specific dollar number from an AI (or a "quote in 60 seconds" competitor site) and are then surprised when the on-site quote is different. It's not because the on-site quote is padded — it's because the AI's number was predicting an average of houses, and yours isn't average.
